Student chapter earns national recognition for construction management excellence
Monday, June 30, 2025
The Kansas State University AGC Student Chapter has been awarded the Construction Management Skills Award by the Associated General Contractors of America, or AGC. The honor recognizes the chapter’s outstanding application of construction management principles through two impactful projects: the Seaton 52 Project and a concrete sidewalk installation at Northview Elementary School. Through these initiatives, the students demonstrated a strong ability to bridge classroom learning with real-world construction challenges.
In the Seaton 52 Project, chapter members led a $60,000 renovation of a collaborative space within Seaton Hall. Students developed preliminary estimates, defined the scope of work and created detailed schedules to ensure the project stayed on time and within budget. Their collaboration with K-State Facilities helped turn the space into a multipurpose area benefiting both students and faculty in the construction science and management program. The project highlighted the chapter’s capabilities in planning, execution and coordination with institutional partners.
Additionally, in partnership with local contractor T&M Concrete, the student chapter took on a community-focused project: constructing a 1,600-linear-foot concrete sidewalk at Northview Elementary School. Over five Saturdays, 56 students poured more than 100 cubic yards of concrete, applying leadership, communication and teamwork to successfully complete the project. For their excellence, the chapter will receive a $2,000 cash prize, $1,000 travel stipend and four student registrations to attend the 2025 AGC Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio, where they will present their work alongside other top student chapters from across the country.
